Common Questions

FAQs

01

What's the difference between BJJ and JTX Kickboxing?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a ground-based grappling art focused on control and submissions, while JTX Kickboxing is a striking discipline blending Japanese and Thai techniques. Many students train both for a complete, well-rounded skill set.

02

Do I need any experience to start?

No experience is needed for either discipline. Both BJJ and JTX Kickboxing are taught progressively from the fundamentals, so complete beginners are always welcome.

03

Is combat sports training safe for beginners?

Yes. All classes are taught by experienced instructors in a structured, supervised environment, with technique and control introduced before any live sparring or rolling.

04

What should I wear or bring to my first class?

Wear comfortable sports clothing and bring a water bottle. If you continue training, we'll guide you through any gi, gloves or equipment needed for your chosen discipline.

05

Can I compete if I want to?

Absolutely. We run successful competition teams in both BJJ and Kickboxing for members who want to test themselves, alongside members who train purely for fitness, fun or friendship.

06

How do I book a free taster class?

Get in touch using the form on this site, call us on 01392 663000, or email info@exetermartialarts.co.uk. We'll help you choose the right discipline and get you booked onto your first free class.
